For those of you who haven't been paying attention, the ending to Portal has been updated ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vq9oKn-SJCU ), new sounds were included in the update (don't know what they are yet), the filenames of the ASCII dumps are apparantly lat/longs to locations in Ohio (location of Aperture Science?), and the BBS is changing as well.
I tried reading through the (currently) 51 pages of thread at that Facepunch site; that's some pretty dedicated hacking. O_O

and presumably they didn't "sacrifice" DirectX support, and instead added in the same sort of switch that engines like Torque have supported for ages, but even if they did say screw Direct3D, it's no real loss, since OpenGL is an equally capable API.

...and here's confirmation. Source will now support OpenGL rendering and running natively on Mac.
Kinda makes me wonder where native Steam on other *nixes is at. Sound and video is perhaps a bit more fragmented on other platforms, but that's nothing a couple harsh decisions can't remedy (say, use just OSS and Mesa).
