Thanks for the encouragement, guys! I'll probably try it tonight and see how it goes. My thought is that grabbing the component with tweezers or putting a little force against it with a tiny screwdriver, loosening the solder, and just pushing the component over to the next pad should be ideal, if doable.

tr1p1ea: while a pity, if this is the best way to get an IO-pin-sipping, 2.6"-diagonal, 400x240 pixel LCD, then I'm willing to live with it.
