sounds cool and performs decent, but expensive. Very, very expensive. I think I'm going to hold off until the AM2 "native" quad-core CPUs are out Very Happy ALthough the ability to later drop in 2x quad-cores for an 8 core desktop machine does sound tempting.... and lets not forget the 12 SATA ports for a current max of 9TB of data without any expansion boards (12 * 750gb), yummy
oh fun. Now, to get a ton of money, and get a couple of DX10 cards and SLI them together, along with that $450 network card, pure ownage, oh yeah.
...except that the FX-74 was outperformed by the Core 2 Quad in games Wink
ok, could you get a similar set up with Core 2's though?
You might be able to find a LGA775 dual socket mobo, but it wouldn't have any of the RAM sharing and interconnectedness that AMD has.

No. This isn't a server-class board, but an enthusiast class board. Meaning no registered/ECC RAM, etc... that would slow down a server-class board - this thing uses high-end performance chipsets. Besides, then you'd be running Xeon's instead of Core 2 Duo's (although the difference is minimal)
