Long story short, I decided to try to install the kde-desktop with aptitude as a tutorial online suggested. However, some of the packages couldn't be installed. As many times as I try, I can't get rid of these packages or install them although KDE is working. I think my terminal tells the story better:

I've had this problem with mythtv before, and was unable to resolve it.
try doing an 'apt-get uninstall bonjour' first... (as root of course, so put sudo before that)
I'll assume you mean apt-get remove (instead of uninstall).

Code:
patrick@Chipmaster:~$ sudo apt-get remove bonjour

You might want to run `apt-get -f install' to correct these:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
ksysguardd: Depends: libavahi-compat-libdnssd1 (>= 0.6.13) but it is not going to be installed
E: Unmet dependencies. Try 'apt-get -f install' with no packages (or specify a solution).
yes, I meant remove - sorry, I don't have apt-get anymore Wink

see if there are any force commands or similar and try and get bonjour off of there (removing, if necessary, anything that has unmet dependencies - such as ksysgaurd). If that fails, just try doing "sudo rm /usr/lib/libdns_sd.so.1" and then installing libavahi-compat-libdnssd1
I tried that but it didn't help. I've decided that I'd rather not have the kubuntu desktop because I was having other problems (like my computer randomly crashing. A friend had the same problem when he installed the kubuntu desktop so I believe that to be the issue) so I removed the entire thing. This has cleared up the avahi issue. Thanks for the help although none of it worked Wink Razz [/code]
Similar problem and I've tried even removing the lib file as you suggested the last time, but no dice. Here's what I'm working with:

I did look it over, but I don't have a clue as to how to fix it, sorry - been years since I've used apt-get (and that was with debian, not ubuntu)
Alright. I guess I'll try the ubuntu forums. Is there any other resources I should try before I post there so I don't look like a complete n00b?
