ah ok, next time i will link to the users profile as well as post's they made.

I was going to do the same with the history to find the users name but seen you already done so.
You guys are doing a great job with this! I'm trying to think how we could prevent these new spambots from popping up, but since they're human-activated, I'm having trouble coming up with good ideas. Sad

I don't think there's anything you can do, other than making registration so ridiculously difficult that no human would bother...

Admin-activation for all new accounts might help screen some of them, but at the expense of allowing enthusiastic new members to post right away.
comicIDIOT, user dealt with, thanks. DShiznit, sadly, I think that you're right about that. Sad Regarding your last point, I think it's hard to tell that some of these users are spambots until they post anyway. Sad
prabu is a bot.

Taken care of. Daniel, for future reference, there's less forum overhead if you suspend a user by clicking "no" to "active" in their profile in the ACP than adding them to the banlist.
This seems like a bot.

Yeah, I think we should wait and see what he does next. There're no links or anything. Just a huge necropost.
We're keeping an eye on it.

I'm pretty convinced that that's a bot, but I haven't taken action yet.
*bump* There was a user who registered last night called PhilipSteele who posted about twelve posts, all of which were slightly on-topic, but in broken English, and a ton of necrobumps, as if he/she/it was choosing random topics. I deleted the user's posts and suspended them.

Acknowledged. Deleting posts, can an Admin take care of the account?
Drago's a spam bot:

This isn't really on-topic but I thought this was kinda weird.

Cheers! I spent the past three months doing many heavy and thorough cycles of debugging and tweaking, so I'll hope this is the most rock-solid release of Doors CS to date. I think I might have some Doors XP copies on some old floppy disks somewhere. Smile

To try to stay on-topic, bots now steal people posts on forums they crawl, then reply on other forums on relevant topics using them! Shock

(And for those who don't click either links, the Kerm post is in response to someone commenting on Doors CS7 and bringing up DoorsXP, while the bot post is in response to Kerm announcing Doors CS7)

That's crazy. I'm a little confused as to why someone would write a bot like that... if it's not spamming people, why bother writing it? Lulz?
The trick is that the bot replies in a somewhat on-topic way on various forum subjects, but they also put spam links in their signatures. Some bots also put the links at the end of the post or simply fake a signature below their post.

Because the reply is on-topic, some administrators will think it's a legit member and not ban him, thus, the sites linked to in the signature still get a small traffic increase. Repeat this 600000 times on about half as many forums.
