What is the best up-to-date book or resource for learning assembly programming on an x86 Linux platform?
"Assembly Language Step-by-Step Programming with DOS and Linux" (I own the 2nd edition) is a bit outdated, I believe. But I'm not sure. What's you guys' take?

Honestly, starting with http://siyobik.info/main/documents/view/x86-tutorial/ is a good idea, it'll teach you some basics and then point you in the direction for Linux programming (I think it points you to a "How to Write a Linux Driver" type of book)
Learn C instead. Then once you've got the basics start inlining some assembly.

I tend to agree with Kllrnohj here. It's neat to know how to create a program entirely in x86 assembly (and I do, since I started learning about it in seventh grade), but I can't say there's any practical or academic use for it now.
