For the summer of 2004, the high-end calculator line gets a metallic lift with the TI-89 Titanium. In addition to tripling the memory to 2.7 MB of flash, it also features a built-in USB port for computer connectivity as well as the kickstand slidecase (I'm not sure if this is included or an add-on, I think it's purchased seperately). All three calculators feature high-contrast LCDs and are compatible with TI's projection devices (like ViewScreen). -ticalc.org

well, is it worth it?

Only if you want some ugly looking thing to carry around... Geez, really. That keyboard is hideous! Why did they have to slope it like that? Ruined a perfectly good keyboard layout... I think I'll stick with my older 89.

And what's with the USB port? Ultra convenient? Yeah right. If there was a port on the calc like one on the computer then it would be ultra convenient. That port on the calc looks precisely like the one on my HP. It is an improvement I'll have to admit.

The memory would be nice to have, even though I don't have anything to fill it with... Neutral

Hey, I don't know maybe I'll actually get it. Although I don't have a 89, I might get it to finally be able to actually play 89 games.

89's confuse me. I'm so used to my 83+ that I can't use them. Not only are the calculation home screen and menu selections different, but programming is a little different, too. When you get an 89 it may take a while to adapt and get used to its functions.

Yes. I got an 89 last year (why couldn't they release the 84+ one year earlier so I could get it for free?), but had a hard time using it because the keys are different. On the 83+, I can type about as fast as on my computer. On the 89, I can't type at all. Why couldn't they keep the 83 serie's layout?

What TI needs to do is stop adding all these extra accessories and make a calculator with a LOT of RAM.

I can type about the same on both. Although I do sometimes mix up a couple of keys. (I'm better on the 89, however.) The reason they couldn't keep the 83 layout was because the variables x,y,z,t are most often used in graphing (don't ask me why) so TI decided to stick them right there. That kind of shoved everything down a little and "messes up" typing for 83 users.

Same here - at first. Now using the 89 is second nature. Laughing Just takes time to get used to it.

Hey I agree with Jacs. I also think personally that the TI-89 keyboard should be like the TI-83+ as I'm used to that. Hey do you think there's gonna be a third button on later versions?

You think TI will change the entire layout of the 89's keyboard so that 83 users will find it easier to use? Do you realize that it'd more trouble to them than it's worth?

I don't know. Maybe because the Ti-83+ is popular. Hey I wonder if later versions would be able to support color?

I think the 89 will be keeping its current keyboard layout. TI would have to rewrite some of the AMS to support the 83 Plus layout. And if you want color, there's this really ugly casio you can buy...

I know too many people that have that calc and actually obsess over it like it's some kind of super calc, simply because it has color. You don't need color to have a good game. That issue was thrown out years ago due to how many good games we've got on the calc. Plus, color would take up too much memory.

O.K. Hey do you think that later calcs would have a better processor. Oops...... Umm.. here's the link for the pics of the 89 T...TI-89 T. Oh yeah, I also heard the price would be $149.99. Well is it worth it for this price?

Same cost as the TI-89. The Titanium has 3 times the memory - for the same cost. (Although it has that ugly look...) Really, it's up to you.
