Well after months of waiting and countless threads of discussion, the Texas Instruments 84+ is now available for purchase. You can go check out the specs on the TI website or shop around for the best price on Froogle.
While it's unlikely these top-of-the-line calcs will be selling-out in stores nationwide, it will cause a stir in our humble TI community. Be on the lookout for new Apps, ASM programs, and Basic programs which are said to be "TI-84+ customized" or "made for the 84+". It won't take long before those spoiled brats who are the first to receive the calc start posting their games and quadratic solvers in the 84+ section on ticalc.org.
While it is true that games and programs will be made specially for the 84+, the 84+'s software does not stand alone. It is fully compatible with that of the 83+ and 83+ SE, expanding the 84's capabilities.
As far as I know, no one in this forum owns an 84+, and priced over 100 big ones, it is unlikely anyone here will own one soon. So go out and mooch off your friends, see what cool stuff it can do, what's the same, what's different. I know we are all itching to hear more about it.

Quote: and priced over 100 big ones So it costs just as much as the Ti83+?
So why is it unlikely anybody has one? |

The best price for this calc is approximately $110. The best price for the 83+ I found in 5 minutes was $60, but that appeared to be a fluke because it seemed to be about $96 everywhere else. I'd accept $14 for lots of memory, better speed, and a clock. |

Hopefully long enough to keep the flood of useless programs out, though that'll end up happening eventually... |

My little thingy:
84+SE, 84+ == OR << "CRAP"
Reasons:
"Stupid keying layout
"Same thing as 83+/83+SE (Speed, mem, arc)
"Same resolution as 83+/83+SE
"Pricing is ridciously high
"WHO THE HECK WANTS A SLIDE COVER OVER THEY'RE KEYPAD???
Pluses:
Wow, there's a clock
Conclusion
I like my 83+SE better. Thank goodness I have 2. (Fixed a "broken" one that I bought for 10 bucks ) |

Fixed.
Also, once the stores stop carrying the 83+ and 83+SE, of course they'll be selling quite a few of the 84+ and 84+SE. Of course, it won't be prime calculator selling season until August. |

How come the 84 plus Silver Edition has less archive memory (1,5 MB) than the 83 plus SE (2MB)? Or do they mean that the 1,5 MB is what's left of your memory with all the preloaded apps? (the 83+ SE has 1,1 MB left)
And: WOW! 2,5 times the processor speed! The 83+ SE has 2,25 times the speed of a 83 plus (checked it with the pong program)
Conclusion: What is the difference between the 83+ SE and the 84+ SE?!
The 83+ SE even looks cooler!! |

Funny, I thought they had the same. It's probably from the apps...

Look, USB plug, faceplate.
By the way, are you from somewhere in Europe?

I just recently bought a 84+ and there is really no difference between that and the 83+. The only differences are the clock, speed, and the looks, but thats it. |

Well, once TI runs out of 83+ SE's they're going to sell 84+ SE's instead. |

Well, considering I'm American it did seem rather odd... Then I remember from my chemistry class from last year that some places use commas in place of decimal points. Just thought I'd ask about that... |

it was recently my birthday and to treat myself i purchased the 84+SE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i love its features, but its not really different from the 83 (for those of you who didn't read the press releases), its key to key identical.
The coolest part i think it the actual hardware. Unlike the 83+ se the back is completely flat, and the mix of plastics, smooth and shiny, to kinda rough and matte.
Also the built in clock, it allows for new programming functions like getTime.
But it's really not different. Even though i like it, my 83+ se has more programs and thus, more use, lol. |
