Poll Added―What music type are we looking at?

Chip―can be described as your old-school NES/ATARI classic-style music, and is performed by playing saw, sine, square, and triangle waves at different frequencies, while still keeping effects such as vibrato, portamento, and offsets.

Voice―defined as having the ability to play differing frequencies simultaneously. This is what you'd expect to hear from any modern-day video game; it uses recorded samples to achieve realism. Electric pianos (i.e., keyboards) allow you to switch between the pre-determined sample sets (voices) in its wavetable.

Also, wouldn't chip take up less space than voice?
Oh well, I voted chip, me like boops and beeps.

At 1kB/sec, chip will be most usable. It's not a bad thing, the Genesis Sonic's had suprisingly catchy melodies--very progressive for thier time.

Okay, I guess I'll have to start learning how to make these!
Shouldn't be too hard, seeing as I have >200 chip modules sitting directly front of me.

Whoops, I just re-read that last post and something came out wrong. Voice is what runs at 1kB/sec and not chip like I implied. By "chip" you mean something like midi right? Like music on an intrument/tone/duration basis?

Although chiptunes are scripted in a similar fashion as MIDI, they only make use of true tone/noise generators in real-time scripts. Reading from packaged instrumental samples came later.

So, it's really more of an amplitude/phase/frequency/modulation/duration. 8)

This leaves any and all manipulation of the frequency outputs to the music programmer. All the program has to do is adjust the above emboldened elements according to the composer's schematics, compromising any need to "grab" the right instruments, as the only such "instruments" are the different wave types mentioned in the first post.

I hope this helps. Confused

Okay, just confirming. This was my intent with my last sound attempts. Unfortuanantely, the wav->.db converter I was using would have to be modified and I had difficulties finding realistic instrument samples. (By "had difficulties" I mean I found none). I may have to re-learn Q-basic to revive the program again.
