File Name :: Contra 83
Author :: Bryan Thomas
Category :: Ti-83plus Basic Games
Screenshot ::
Description ::
Contra 83 is one of the biggest achievements in pure BASIC. It is a remake of the classic NES game Contra, and is the most advanced BASIC platform game to date. The game has so many features including: 6 creative levels, 3 enemy types, weapon upgrades, 3 difficulty settings, a top 9 high score system (with antihack protection), complicated scoring, a boss at the end of each level that grows in size and strength, very fast game play, interactive terrain including landmines and water, and of course saving/loading (The game will also include a level editor once it is finished). Contra 83 is the true meaning of BASIC. It does not use 1 ASM utility and uses no outside engines or code, just strictly good old home fashioned BASIC. The game proves that BASIC has its power and that a game does not need ASM to be revolutionary. The game uses one of the best engines ever using complex numbers and equations to generate real looking terrain, and an AI program that will not slow even if 1000 enemies were on a screen. Contra 83 is definitely worth the download. Check it out for yourself, and you will see what all the hype is about. Made by Bryan Thomas. Consult the attached readme for all you questions. Thanks goes out to everyone that helped with this project.

It won't run on a regular 83. That's because it uses Archive/Unarchive. That's why you wait for me to approve a file. Because I fix these things.

That splash screen isn't saying much for the game.

[EDIT]

Err, okay. It's been fixed! :biggrin:

An incredible achievement; one of if not the finest piece of BASIC code ever. Not to mention; gameplay is fun if not difficult.

Does this mean the level-editor is continuing?

I have heard that Contra is too fast for the fast calcs though.

that game is awesome, I played it on the 83+ and I was amazed by how fast it ran and how good the graphics could be for a pure basic game at the same time

I think Im going to have modify my guide to pure Basic sprites and maps, and add this in as an example of what Basic can do.

Can you be more specific/describe your problem better?

Normally, you can choose where the default is for your browser to download files to. It will download to that directory.

If you can't find it on the calculator, look under the program menu for something along the lines of "CONTRA".

I tried but it keeps saying the same thing for every game. It says Windows cannot find the program that created it, so on. I don't know how you guys are doing it, but I know nobody who can do it because it is happening with them too!

Assuming you've installed Ti Connect properly, right click on the *.8xp file and click "Send to TI Device..."

That's like a file extension issue, not a download problem. Razz

Late response to help issue ... try actually receiving the game on calc ... don't just send? ... If not probably size or wrong link.
