The sticky as promised. :)
Now...
1. If you're going to be posting homework questions, at least show us that you've taken some effort into trying to solve them. Not all of us are so kind as to coax and push the totally clueless... *sigh*
Example:
"How do I solve linear equations?" -Not good.
"I was trying to solve this set of linear equations, and I was curious as to whether I should use rref() or Cramer's rule." -Better
2. For those replying to questions, the level of detail you choose to put in your reply is up to your discretion. If you can, please be concise and clear. :)
3. Feel free to post anything that is novel, interesting and hasn't been discussed before (at least in this forum). Meaning, SEARCH before you post!
4. The dichotomy: how algorithms work- post it here; how to do those algorithms in TI-BASIC or assembly- the Programming Forums. Capisce?
5. It may not be illegal where you live, but I'm not allowing the discussion of mind-altering drugs, energetic materials, and other borderline stuff. I will have to take some measures otherwise. Simple.
That's it. Enjoy the forum.

About the algorithms, I'd say programming syntax/implementation in the programming forum and algorithm theory in here, if it's math..y enough.
And I don't think drugs would be on topic in this subforum. : P

Energetic substances, as in asking for help in making hazardous materials? I would agree with that. |

Don't wanna be a... I dunno, but "How Things Are Run"? Is that gramatically correct? Maybe just "How Things Run". |

Those are two different (both grammatically correct) phrases.
"How Things Are Run" is the passive form of "How One Runs Things". The things are being run.
"How Things Run" is active. The things are doing the running.
Finally, what you're being is a grammar nazi. |

Would giving generalized examples to someone who doesn't understand a certain topic be okay? Maybe they've just tried and tried and still don't understand how a certain thing works (or something like that). Would it be okay to help them out then? |

It's not a problem we haven't faced before, for example in the programming help threads. |

The global forum rules apply to all subforums, from there it is up to each moderator if they which to use a more strict subset of rules in addtition to, but in most cases that won't be deemed necessary.

Maybe you or someone could (later) create a topic that would have links to all the topics discussed already? Sort of like a table of contents. But that's assuming there even are that many posts. Example:
==Geometry==
-Pythagorean theorem (link to topic)
-Area of a triangle (link...)
==Trigonometry==
-sin, cos, tan
-arcsin, arccos, arctan
-radians
[...]
*Yes, I am German, in case you were wondering! |

That's a very good idea. I was even planning something like that for the Basic forum a while back, but having to go through that many topics halted my progress (I have my notes if anyone wants to finish it though).
It could work if started at the same time as the forum. |

A sticky that might serve as a table of contents, right? I just might get to it... Danke schoen for ze suggestion, Herr Ruddick. :D
Yep, energetic materials was a term coined by one of the forums I frequent to refer to substances that go *kaboom*. :)
OK... more seriously, are the rules too strict? Should I loosen the noose just a wee bit?
