Overkill. Betcha you can combine them, Contra-style. You can store up to 14 unique digits in a single list element.

Someone prod me into uploading my eternally-forgotten game off my calculator that demonstrates this.

It might be over kill, but is far simpler than trying to get digits then see about changing the values. :/

Besides, the lists aren't overly large, yet, so it is something that doesn't really need to be worried about for the time being...
