agreed. I think a lite version w/ no gui would be nice. Seems like a popular trend worth looking into. Although continue to support the original DCS lib like the lib mouse. That's actually one thing I like about DCS even though I'm indifferent about guis.

As I said on Cemetech, there's no way to strip it down to one page without removing the entire GUI API, CALCnet, and a bunch of other stuff including part of MOS support, which is definitely not something I want to do.

Kerm, perhaps, leave it as a 2 page app, with all the gui stuff intact, but add the sort of feature that Mirage has where you can define a custom desktop layout, organized how you want it. perhaps you could even allow minimal "theming" for the rest of the DCS gui programs.

I would also support the idea of a lite version. You could always have the Ultimate version - just have the lite version as a stripped down version of the Ultimate version or something like that.

Though I honestly don't know how easily that could be implemented, having two program versions and everything...

Once again, it seems to me that the primary draw of a lite edition would be the one-page size, not necessarily a lighter GUI - or am I misunderstanding? I'm open to a version with a minimal GUI, but not so much a single-page version.

Out of curiosity, how close is the current version to begin filling up a third page?

Ah, 530 bytes of 32,046 available are unused. Very Happy

I was thinking like a NoShell like lite edition except with support for current DCS only programs. <wishful thinking>

Note that if DCS fixes the RunProg routine, I could make a version of CalcUtil to interface with it, and you could run DCS programs from the homescreen. However, that would require 3 app pages total, so I guess a lite edition of DCS with built-in NoShell-like capabilities is a much better idea.

If you check my roadmap, a homescreen execution hook is already planned. Smile

You know what else msd8x needs? Fat32 support! Razz The only drive I have that I can plug into my calculator without buying more cables is Fat32.

Yeah but many projects would love to be able to use dcs's runprog so that should be closer top the top of your list Kerm. Also that would most likely make the homescreen execution hook easier to do.

Yup, that's the whole point, and note that those are the top two items on my roadmap except for nSpire compatibility. Very Happy I figure since the nSpire stuff shouldn't be terribly difficult or take much time, I can use the opportunity to remember how everything works in Doors CS again, hence speeding up the RunProg conversion. As I recall, I wanted to fix the RunProg system a few times, but always got intimidated by the complexity of my system.

Also, thoughts on my splashscreen ideas thus far?

I like the simple first splash screen the best.

I didn't know about the runprog feature you're planning. I guess that's another unique thing about DCS I didn't know about.

RunProg is both the name of the internal program type-identification and execution subsystem within Doors CS and also the name of a MirageOS vector that allows programs to run programs.

Really? What do you like so much about them? I'm still mostly in favor of the fourth one over the second one.
