Well, it is that time. I need to integrate this into the game, and I need to figure out which one is everyone's favorite. I will probably give this a couple days before going with the most popular one. If no one votes (will that happen? ) then I will go with the one that I think looks the best.

As of now, there are still other things for me to implement, which I shall. Anywho...

Edit:

Oops! almost forgot! Those town maps are by leofox. Razz

the routes on the upper one are ugly with so much white.

the lower one is much better.

btw: is that grayscale or do I see that incorrectly.

I like the bottom one more as well, but don't like the way that the small black dots (err... I know nothing about Pokemon and have no clue what they are) show up on it. Then again, maybe it would be clearer on an actual calculator screen (these things often are).

I do. They look like walls of some sort in the second image.

They are towns, which is why I like the first image. It doesn't look like things are blocked off. Razz

I don't suppose there's a chance of making the trail wider so that it could have borders and still have the symbols look reasonable?

Edit: something like this.

Maybe, but it would make things look packed in there... I will try to get an image edited here shortly...

Edit:

Sadly, no. There simply would not be enough room to do that, without doing some major changing to the image itself. When I put the 2nd image on the calc, it had that lower 'road' on the bottom of the screen. It cut off that lower 2 rows of pixels.

Edit2:

That looks really bloated on calc. :/ And it is missing the lower boundary of the 'road'.

Edit3:

Changing my vote, #2 looks the absolute best on calc. As soon as I can, I will make a screenshot.

The second one looks the best. I mean, the first one is good and all, just you can't really see the roads as clearly.

They aren't towns, they are 'interesting spots' as they say. Mount moon, the power plant, viridian forest, rock tunnel, the lot.

Of those three, Darker's is the best. of the original 2, #2.

I think #2 is the best. #1 is closer to the original game, but overall the second one looks better.

All three images could be shifted slightly upwards (so instead of cutting off entirely on the bottom, you cut off a bit of the top as well) - and I think they would all benefit from this.

I agree. The original GBA image I based my town maps on have another aspect ratio, i cropped the top of those to make them 96x64.
Cropping the upper row instead of the lower row would be at least closer to my original design.

DarkerLine's mod sure looks interesting, but it also makes the routes very bloated in my opinion. That was my original reason to not use his method in the first place.

Remember that in the original games the routes already looked a lot thinner compared to what we are working with now, but that can't be helped.

And is it just me, or do all the images have slight (as in broken borders or on-pixels on routes) errors on the calc screenie that need fixing?

yeah, something that can easily be fixed once one is decided upon. I believe it happened when TI-Connect screencapture changed the program.

if darkerline's pic is shifted about 3 pixels up, then that will be the best of the 3

The first map gives the closest feel to the original, which I like.
