I don't know what other ppl like, but I always sling up a ton of shots on Pheonix before the enemies show up. Then again this could make the game easier. If the shots are cleared it makes the levels harder to beat.

I haven't commented this game yet so here we go:

Holy, mother of crapper! The grey scale adds just the perfect little touch Very Happy Most amazing graphics!

But I'm not sure if it's been said yet; but I kinda feel that the enemies are too close to the middle of the screen. Is it possible to have them placed on the second row down, as opposed to the third/fourth?

Besides that, the source code looks great Very Happy

srry ppl i had to drop the lil left\right scroll cuz it was taking up to much resources and making the frame rate drop like a lot with 10+ objects on screen.

I also decreased the scroll rate of the back ground from 1/2 to 1/6.


The left\right will be an option with some other stuff ya know 'cuz I want to smoothest performance of this game. Very Happy

that is a little easier on the eyes now that background is scrolling slower.

have you done any on-calc testing yet?

Yes, i've done a lot of calc testing. The game has some slight blur, but with a medium contrast it looks quite nice.


I know there's two bugs in the code atm. One: If you get hit by 2 bullets with 1 life, you'll get -1 lives and the game will kinda freeze up. Will get that fixed when i get sometime.

2nd: the input hiscore name is a screen of gibberish on the real calc. Dunno why.

Runs slightly better on the real calc. I'm doing level designs atm (the screeny features part of level 0 <3)


cant wait to get this project out the door cuz phoenix is so nub cake

Just a suggestion, but this was something I really liked about phantom star (another shooter): instead of just having lives, your ship has shields and hull strength. Shields can be recharged (either over time or with power ups), but hull damage is permanent (until you die). When you die, you drop some powerups (weapons, shield batteries, etc.), and after about a second or two your new ship comes from the bottom, impervious to damage for a second or two.

Well, i just updated the enemy pattern movement routine, so now the enemy can do some more advanced movements.

Did not get any progress 'cuz I was too lazy to do anything and i'm going on a plane flight in like 2 days anyway.

I said i would release the source code and here it is Razz.

I'll be back in like a week anyway. If i don't respond in teh forums in like 3 weeks, fear the worst. Very Happy

school is starting, my sister just went off to university last week hence the stupid one week plane crap, and i really dont feel like working on anything to do with calcs

everyone else seems to have some amazing stuff done and no progress is been made for me but i might just get sum stuff done b4 schhool... dunno if im going to finish this game up.

It would be such a waste if you didn't finish this, it looks like a really great game. It's OK if you don't work on it for a while, as long as it gets done in the end.

And think of it... two awesome shooters released around the same time. That would be great.

the falling asteroids are the best. bigger objects are much more fun/hard to dodge. maybe you could make them fracture and form larger/wider clusters, making them even harder to avoid?
