My TI 89 died yesterday and I cant figure out why!!!! I've changed the batteries twice with brand new ones but its still totally unresponsive. The strange thing is that when I take a battery out and put it back in the calculator automatically turns on for a second but then dies again before I can hit any buttons.

Im really freaking out that my very expensive calculator that i bought less than a year ago is already dead for no reason. Please if you can think of anything I might be able to do or somewhere I could get it repaired I would much appreciate it. Good Idea

try holding 2nd, left and right when turning it on. Or plugging it into a computer.

The backup battery could be dead. I don't know if that would prevent it from turning on all the way, but It's possible. Try replacing the backup battery. If that doesn't work, try luby's suggestion or contact TI and ask them.

[Edit] I just thought, if you ran some program that could be a virus, it could be turning your calculator off whenever you turn it on. You may want to try taking the batteries out for about 24 hours (including the backup battery). Only do this if you ran a program that could be a virus, though.

Glad it worked. Otherwise you'd have to delete everything, and that wouldn't be good. Smile
