NimbusOS is here

As NETWizz recently announced, I am now releasing NimbusOS under an open-source license.
Consider it a humble New Year's gift.

To recount the story: NimbusOS was an ambitious project undertaken by core members of
United-TI, with the goal of creating a full-blown operating system for the TI-83 Plus.
In practice, we achived only the most essential: the ability to run programs from a graphical interface.
A couple of beta versions were released, bugs were fixed, but the development never really took off.

NimbusOS stalled at the 6th beta version, which was a limited release in the end of 2005.
The source code is practically unchanged since then.

Asm programs (Ion) run fairly well in Nimbus beta 6. TI-BASIC progs may fail though, due to TI-OS quirks.

The release zip archive contains a signed flash application, source code, a batch file to build it, and brief release notes.

It works best on a TI-83 Plus calc, but may be usable on TI-84s as well – your mileage may vary.

Do whatever you want with the source.
Just make sure you provide the source if you happen to release any work wholly or partly based on NimbusOS code.

That being said, it's time for me to take the opportunity to thank you all for supporting the UTI project.
This marks the official end of my TI community involvement, but I will probably pop in here now and then.

I first thought it was fake news before reading the topic. But it isn't April's Fools...

I actually read a few topics because NimbusOS was in old projects category. Curious thing that you remembered to release.

I will take a look on source code or emulator if I can. I will say something later.

I've been testing it for a few days now, with various programs, and have to say that I am very impressed. What it lacks in features, it makes up for in it's elegance and simplicity. The UI is very user friendly and I have yet to find any major problems.

I think it's fantastic that you are releasing the source code as well :)

Wow another old member shows up. I was one of the limited few that got to test it out a long time ago. I actually still have it on my calc I think. The problem is as you get older it becomes harder and harder to work on these hobbies of ours. I gotta give you props for trying to provide an alternative to mirage and even with all the bugs I still like the UI over Doors. Nothing against Kerm though. It's tough to make a shell a shell, let alone one that works with all the other programs that can be compiled with the other various shells.

Wow, I know this is kind of necroposting, but I feel a little dull. I didn't have internet last year when this was released and I never spied this. I saw NETWizz's post and made a request for it not too long ago, but never got a response. Then, cleanign up spam bots/posts, I came across this. Beautiful!
