I have a TI-82 that has numerous columns of dead pixels running through the screen. From what little I've read, this is not an uncommon occurrence. My 85 is also slightly developing this issue, but to a lesser degree of severity and it doesn't always show on my 85.

I'll edit in a picture of the problem in a bit. What would be the best way to go about fixing this issue?
I also owned an 82. I had the same problem. Just carefully resolder the ribbon cable from the screen to the motherboard.
Columns of dead pixels *could* be a deteriorating ribbon cable. Kerm is the master at fixing those and could perhaps give you some tips.
Ok, thanks! Is there any way to tell if it is bad solder joints or a deteriorating ribbon cable? Also, is there any risk inherent with opening it up and repairing it?
When I opened mine, I had no problem. Be sure to take out the 4 batteries, and I think the backup battery as well. BE SURE TO backup all files from your calc to your computer, as taking all the batteries out will erase the memory.

Now, carefully check the cable to see it any of the previous contacts are too dull, or if the ribbon cable is simply partly off the main board
