I am wondering if anyone knows a way to make this work. I am trying to get rid of the repeat wait on a getkey. Because it is very annoying to press and hold just to wait a few seconds before it repeats. My goal is to get it in only ti basic but I can't seem to work it out.

Unfortunately, the OS is responsible for the delay before the key repeats (for all keys except the arrow keys), so there's nothing you can do from pure TI-BASIC other than use the arrow keys. If you're on a monochrome FLASH calculator (that is, TI-83 Plus/SE or TI-84 Plus/SE) and willing to use something in xLIB (also available in Doors CS) that many users should have available, it has the perfect solution:
