Her comp was probably made during the transition from SIMMs to DIMMs (DIMMs are the size of SDRAM - aka, PC1xx, DDR, DDR2)

Look at that image, is her ram roughly like the 3rd one, with the ram in your computer like either of the last two? (the last two only differ in pins and the notches on the bottom. The 4th one is SDRAM - PC100/133, the last one is DDR)
NOTE: SIMMs are not compatible with DIMMs (obviously)
PC100 is compatible with PC133 (to a degree - some of the older northbridges will choke with the wrong speed, so it is best to get the matching speed)
All variants of DDR are compatible, but they are NOT compatible with PC1xx OR DDR2
so SIMM =/= DIMM (PC1xx =/= ddr =/= ddr2)
