which do you like better?

1, because its less 'Windowie' if you get what I mean, #1 is just future looking and new. Smile
It depends on what else you have. If you have mostly rounded elements, go with 1. If most of your elements have 90-degree corners, go 2.
I agree with Kerm. On my machines, mine are square, so I would go with that one, but a mac (and vista I think) have the rounded ones, and it would look better there. To each his own really.
Number 1's roll-up and maximize/restore buttons aren't clear as to what they do, though. Unless you are familiar with them, you wouldn't be able to look at it and know what it does (as most people would probably just see the line and think 'minimize', not roll-up, as ~90%+ of the computers are running Windows which doesn't have roll-up support by default) Whereas with number 2's it shows the line at the top, hence giving at least a hint that it is not a minimize button
perhaps, but its a one-time surprise, and there is no minimize functionality, so its not like they're going to get confused between them.

But that can also be said for any stupid design decision, so while thats theoretically true, in practice probably not so much
This is for ForumOS, correct? If so, I think you should go with the squared ones.
ya. i agree with Kerm. the round ones will fit much better with your entire layout. Anyways I don't like the round ones that much. the shapes inside the circle are not appealing to me.

BTW Vista's Buttons are square and a red rectangle for the close window button.
